Christmas day we decided that we would go on a ride before I left and couldn’t really decide on a destination. Until Saturday morning. We eventually decided on Yazoo city via Hwy 49. Even though it was a really cold ride, it was pretty good. We got to Yazoo and looked for somewhere local to eat and couldn’t find anything open so we ended up eating Wendys. While we were there we found some very interesting buildings for sale. They appeared to be original buildings so I would imagine them being over 100 years old. I could see myself opening a design shop there and freelancing. It would have made a great studio and apartment. Maybe if I win the lotto.

Here are some pics of the trip to Mississippi yesterday. Odie and I made the trip in pretty good time and got here about 5:30 yesterday evening. Just in time for some chili. It rained all the way to the Mississippi river pretty much. I was glad to be driving on dry roads once I got here. I’ll post more pics later but this is what I have for now.

I had a pretty busy weekend I must say. Mom came to town Friday night so we could have our Christmas. I’m going to Dad’s in Mississippi so I won’t get to see mom. I had a good time with her. We cruised around downtown Mckinney and then had dinner at Ronna’s house. It was a good Saturday and I’m glad I got to see her. Sunday was an adventure all it’s own. My buddy Pat buys a certain kind of BBQ spice and the whole gamut is only available at a certain place so we had to make the trek to Grand Prairie this morning. That’s right I said Grand Prairie, the armpit of the Metroplex. The weather was decent so we rode the bikes down to Traders Village to get the spices. I’ve been there before but not in a long time so I had forgotten about everything. You can buy anything. Dogs. Tires for your truck. 500 dollar 4-wheelers. Sombreros. You name it. If you’ve got enough money you can change your name. So we got the spices and hit the road almost without a hitch. I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Someone at the office was showing pictures of their dog and I ended up showing off some of my pics of Odie. Well the new girl Stephanie told me that Odie looks just like her mom’s new dog Ruby who is also a Basset Hound Blue Heeler mix. Then she asked how old Odie was and I told her about 9 months and she said that’s how old Ruby is. She then told me her mom got Ruby from someone north of Denton. I got Odie from an organization in Lewisville but he originally came from somewhere in or near Gainesville, which is north of Denton.

Then she sent me these pics and I’m almost positive they’re related.

Lots of people ask what I want for Christmas and I usually say something ridiculous like this house or an F150 Raptor or nothing at all. However, if you really want to get me something here are a few things I’m diggin’ right now.

Books:

Gig Posters Book at Amazon
Naive, design book at Amazon
Charley Harper Illustration book at Amazon

Random:

Ratatat poster from Decoder Ring
Design poster from Draplin
Any Ox-Blood wallet from Makr
This shirt in Medium from Johnny Cupcakes
Motorcycle Camera from GoPro
Replacement lens for my Nikon D 50
If you’re low on dough, send me a postcard.

7800 Lonesome Spur
Mckinney Tx 75070

I’m really just half serious about this stuff, but if anyone really wants to get me something now you’ve got a good idea!
Happy Holidays y’all!

Well, I went back to Wichita this weekend for some part-time work so I could make a little extra Christmas cash. I’m back now and glad. I love going home but this trip was shotgun. Didn’t see anyone, didn’t relax. I got there Saturday morning and left Sunday evening and worked in between. Add to that, some yokel egged my truck. It was nice to see mom and Ted and my old hound dogs though. Now I’m back in town getting ready for Christmas. I went to Ikea and Hobby Lobby with the girl last night getting supplies for some handmade Christmas gifts so get ready for that!

Last night I went to a DSVC meeting to hear Aaron Draplin, of DDC, speak. I had a long day Tuesday and I wasn’t even sure I wanted to go see him yesterday but I’m sure glad I did. First off, I walk everyone is in the lobby drinking and chatting and he’s in the theater with one other guy so I decided to say hi. I ended up in a 30 minute conversation with one of my biggest inspirations. It didn’t hurt that I showed up with an Illustration (above) of him and his dog Gary. He was completely down to earth and humble and an all around good guy. Thank you Mr. Draplin.
